How to Rebuild a Fleck 5600 Valve

What a Fleck 5600 seal and spacer kit and piston replace, the signs you need them, and the order of work.

By Softenry Editorial · Updated October 2026

The short answer

A rebuild replaces the seals, spacers and piston that wear and let water leak to drain or bypass the resin; it fixes most 5600 problems without a new head.

Signs it needs a rebuild

  • Water running to the drain constantly.
  • Hard water between regenerations with salt and settings fine.
  • The valve stalls in a cycle.

Order of work

  • Bypass, unplug and relieve pressure.
  • Remove the powerhead and the piston assembly.
  • Pull the old seals and spacers in order; lubricate new ones as the kit directs.
  • Fit the new piston, reassemble, restore water slowly.
